Spooky Home Decor

I found some really cool spooky stuff at Hobby Lobby the other day. They have a lot of their Fall stuff available now and you know what that means. Yep, Halloweenie items! Yay! I got a really cool crow statue for only $5 on sale from $10, from the fall section, and a metal cross that was on clearance for only $2.04, although the cashier charged me $2.40 for it. I guess she was a little bit dyslexic and I didn't catch the mistake until I got home. Grrr...Oh well, it was still worth it. They have some crosses in the garden section, that's where mine was originally from, but it was moved to the clearance section. They also have a lot of hanging crosses in the wall decor section. I really want to get one of the hanging ones, but I haven't fallen in love with any of them yet.

P.S. I know I have to dust my shelves! Lol.

Release the Kraken!

My fiancee discovered a new website called Monster by Mail. It's a really cool website that lets you come up with a name for a monster and they will draw you a custom monster based on the name for $25. And for $10 more they will include a you tube video of your monster being drawn. I really like the Giant Squid drawing. The biggest Giant Squid, once called a Kraken, ever recorded was a beached specimen that measured 65 feet long in New Zealand in 1880. According to legends Krakens were able to take down huge ships, although I don't think there's any evidence of that ever really happening. The above image is my version of the Kraken.

A Spooky Mouse?

Some people are afraid of mice, but not me! I love real ones and plushie ones! So I was looking all over for a realistic plushie mouse and I finally found a fantastic handmade one on Etsy, by a talented artist named Naomi P. She also has a store on Artfire and a Blog and you can check out some more of her artwork on Deviant Art. My little mousie friend arrived yesterday and I love him! He's adorable and he told me that he's a spooky mouse because he loves to read spooky books and right now he's in the middle of reading Eclipse from the Twilight series. He also told me that his name is Spooky Sammy or you can just call him Sammy for short. He's so lifelike that my cat tried to eat him and his little piece of cheese that he came with. That's when my inner Eric Cartman took over and I yelled at the cat, "No kitty, that's my pot pie...I mean mousie." Lol.

Cemeteries in Ohio

There are an awful lot of cemeteries in here in Ohio. That was one of the first things that I noticed when I arrived here a few years ago. It made me wonder why. Maybe people come here to die? Or maybe there are a lot of suicides here, god knows I've fantasized about that while living here. lol. Or maybe it's just because there's plenty of space and rural areas that can accommodate them. Who knows. But the fact is that cemeteries are the perfect place for spooky happenings. So of course I had to check some of them out. There is a very small Mennonite cemetery in Canal Winchester, Oh. that I visited once and took lots of pictures. It is very old and some of the tombstones are broken or have fallen over or are in the process of falling over. The oldest tombstone is marked "died 1852," that I can tell from my pics. There are way older ones that don't have dates or are no longer legible. There are a lot of infant tombstones also. But other than the fact that it is a cemetery, there is nothing spooky about this place. No strange occurrences to report. I need to visit and photograph many more, hopefully soon!

Cryptozoology

I've been thinking that not everyone may know what cryptozoology is. So I will explain. It is the study of hidden or unknown animals. Such as Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, and other animals that have not yet been proven to exist. It also includes animals such as the coelacanth pronounced see-luh-kanth, a fish which was thought to have gone extinct with the dinosaurs until one was caught in 1938 off the coast of south africa. Also the okapi was a cryptozoological animal, or cryptid, until it was discovered in 1900 deep in the forests of the Belgian Congo.

"I want to believe."

Monster Quest: Sasquatch Attack

So I rented a Monster Quest dvd, it's a show where these people go out and look for "monsters" (cryptids). So I was watching the Sasquatch episode and these guys go to Snelgrove Lake, in Ontario, Canada and they stay in some secluded fishing cabin where Sasquatch has been known to scare the fishermen. Once he even trashed a cabin, it was a mess! Anyways, so they go looking for him and while they're outside at night someone or something throws a rock at them. They all freak out, but this one guy throws a rock back. So then another rock gets tossed into camp. Well, these guys really freak out then and they all go and hide in the cabin like scared little girls. But I gotta give the one camera guy props, because he goes to the edge of the forest, by himself, looking for Sasquatch or whatever the hell is tossing rocks at them. Really guys? You went in search for Sasquatch and you think you might have found him, but then you hide? That doesn't make any sense. I mean c'mon! I'm thinking that the Sasquatch episode might have been staged. There were other things that didn't really make sense in that episode also.

Kinda Spooky

If you just happen across this huge field of giant white concrete corn located in Dublin, Oh. you might be a little bit spooked. You might wonder, who put these here and why? Was it giant alien Indians? (Yes, I stole that from comedian Dane Cook.) Or maybe it's some kind of a Stonehenge? The real answer is none of the above. It's a tribute to Sam Frantz, the inventor of hybrid corn and it is set in a field that used to be a real corn field. There's 109 of these giant corn statues, made by artist Malcolm Cochran. Spooky, huh?

"I'll tell you who it was...

it was that damn Sasquatch!" 10 points for anyone who knows what movie that quote is from. I took this picture in Blacklick Woods in Reynoldsburg, Oh. I thought Sasquatch might be hiding somewhere amongst the trees. Most likely he isn't hiding in the woods right next to a very busy street/intersection, where this photo was taken. But it was worth a try. lol.

Proof!

Here's some proof that I've been fascinated with the Loch Ness Monster for years. Here are some pics that I drew of him/her years ago, when I was a teenager and a kid.

Silly Thoughts...

I was just watched a couple of documentaries on Bigfoot (Ancient Mysteries:Bigfoot and The Legend of Bigfoot:Bigfoot Terror) and it got me thinking about Bigfoot's relationship to Chewbacca from Star Wars. They kinda look similar, except for the fact that Chewbacca's face seems to be more dog-like as opposed to Bigfoot's ape-like face. I know Chewbacca is a Wookie and Bigfoot is Bigfoot, but maybe they're distant cousins? Then I thought, well, what about the Ewoks? Could they be related to Bigfoot and Chewbacca also? Maybe they're the offspring of a Bigfoot and a Wookiee? Or maybe they're just the little people of their world. Because if there's at least one Bigfoot on our planet, who's to say there are no Bigfoot or Bigfeet (is that the plural for Bigfoot?) on Endor or on Kashyyyk, where the Ewoks and Wookiees reside? If those planets still exist, I'm not a Star Wars expert by any means. I'll admit right now that I had to google the planet name of the Wookiees. Oh well, just something to ponder.

New Sighting of Champ!

Some say that Champ, the Lake Champlain Monster has been sighted again. He is the US version of the Loch Ness Monster. Some say he is sea serpent, minus the sea aspect of it I guess as he is in a lake. lol. Other say he is a pleasiosaur or other similar dinosaur that lives in Lake Champlain which borders New York, Vermont and Quebec, Canada. He was spotted in Burlington, Vermont at Oakledge Park on Sunday May 31st, at around 5:30 am. Here is the video of the sighting on youtube. I don't think it's an inanimate object, nor do I think it's any old animal or fish as others suggest. I'd like to think it's him, or maybe some other cryptid. I guess I'll just have to go check it out for myself.

Welcome to Spookyville USA!

I have created Spookyville USA to document all the spooky things that happen everywhere, but mostly focusing on the stuff in and around Ohio as it is where I reside. By "spooky" I am referring to anything scary or out of the ordinary such as ghosts, UFOs and cryptid sightings. I hope you find this blog interesting and informative. My goal is to go out and investigate some of these stories myself and post my findings here. So be sure to check back often!
